Media website
If you want to share your Music, Movies, Documents, Programs and other files you will need a Media System to organize the things for you.
You can find many of these system online for free we will discuss 2 ways to build your media website
Don't forget that you might need some basic website building skills (like HTML, CSS...)
And of course you will need a Domain name and a Web Hosting. (try to find a plan that provides big web space since Media files take good amount of space)
 

Coppermine
Coppermine is an good media system organizer and its totally free.
Remember that the system is ready and all you need to do is to install it on your website, and if needed you can customize it a little bit.
What you need to install it and start it working is a web hosting that supports Apache server, PHP, MySQL and either GD or ImageMagic (important for your thumbnails).
Coppermine is loaded with features, user comments, multi language, categorize files, lots of themes.... and many other features.
All you have to do is to download the system on your desktop and then upload it to a web host that provides these requirements.

Gallery by gallery.menalto.com
Gallery is similar to Coopermine (above), you can download it for free.
Gallery is more advanced from Coopermine and it has much more features. And its best for people with intermediate or advanced experience.
It works with several different image processing toolkit and and is available in over 30 languages.
you can use RSS to publish your gallery, Gallery can be embedded in some famous CMS's like (Nuke 5.0+, NSN-nuke, Post-nuke, Geek Log , phpBB2, Mambo).
You can change your websites look, using HTML, CSS and Themes.
Also you will have click counting, commenting, polls....... the list of features is too long
and here is the Gallery requirements:

  • Platform - UNIX (BSD, Linux, ...) or Windows
  • Webserver - Apache, Microsoft IIS, Zeus, ...
  • PHP - PHP version 4.1.0 or greater, PHP safe_mode must be turned off
  • Image Processing Library - In order to automatically generate thumbnails and resized versions of your photos, Gallery requires either ImageMagick or NetPBM. Gallery 2 additionally supports GD and GraphicsMagick
  • Database (Gallery 2 only) - MySQL 3.x, 4.x or 5.x, PostgreSQL 7.x or 8.x, Oracle 9i or 10g, DB2 8.2 (Gallery 1.x does NOT require a database)

All you have to do is to download Gallery on your desktop and then upload it to a web host that provides these requirements.
