What is google Adsense ?
Google Adsense is loosely speaking an extension of google adwords,
Google adwords is a system that allows you to pay google to show your
website for certain searches, You bid on keywords to get your result
on the top of those boxes that appear to the right of your search,
Google adsense is an extension of adwords that those boxes will appear
on participating websites. So instead of the advertisement being
served on the google website, it gets served on the google website and
other participating websites.
Can anyone join ?
Almost, They do accept most sites with appropriate content,
Appropriate content is content that does not harm the company's image
like adult only websites for example that feature pornographic
material.
Is it free to join?
Yes !
How much will i make compared to my performance ?
At the moment google is a hot system, It is making me for example a
significant amount of money, No one knows (but google) how much they
give you but it seems to be a percentage of the bid paid by the
adwords customer, Other people say it has to do with the ratio of ads
clicked versus served (impression to click ratio) but that as a linear
equation is defiantly untrue, if they have a complex equation for that
it would be a totally different story.
How does google adsense work ?
Simply put, when the google spider crawls your pages, it checks
what the content of your page is about and then serves the ads on your
pages by displaying adwords ads that match a string (the adwords
customer determines) in your document, it seems to be much more
complex than that but this is the general idea.
One problem is that google is not rotating the ads enough, so your
visitor will click the link once but when he comes back he will se an
ad he has already seen
Can i click my own ads ?
I don't advise you to, it is prohibited (and that is natural for
program integrity) and if you get caught you loose. And you will, they
have a system to detect cheating and it works well (from my past
experience with google services), Don't even think of anonymous
surfing software, they track cheating using complex patterns not jus
through your IP or cookies !
Can i track my advertisement sales in adsense ?
Within the your account at the google website you will only find a
small report that shows you how many people have clicked on your
banners and how many banners have been shown and surely how much you
have earned, It may take up to an hour to see the results, Even though
i investigated the issue but there is no news on weather google will
upgrade there system to allow you to monitor what pages are generating
what revenue.
Can i track results for separate pages ?
At the moment NO, but if you check back soon i am working on a
statistics system (PHP) to track the results of google adsense, once i
come up with it i will send it to anyone who has commented on
the topic on the forum !
How about the server log file ?
Sure you could track your results with the server log file, But
that will only log the outs with no information on money, you can set
up your website to track the outs, but this provides very minimal
information since every ad will generate a different amount of money.
Can i modify the code in order to track results in google adsense
?
Unfortunately NO, You can not modify the google code in any way,
even if it remains functional, Since it is prohibited by google and if
they sense that you have modified the code, your account could be
cancelled !
Can i use the google code on websites that use frames ?
Sure you could, but will it server payable impressions that is a
different story, The ads shown on your page depend on the page
content, so if you have the google code on its own on a frame it would
server non payable ads to charitable organizations, If you use frames
it is advised that you have the google code on the framed page that
has the content, otherwise you will not be making sense of the adsense
program !
Note CPC = Cost Per Click, has come to mean advertising and paying
only for visitors, others like commission junction offer a PFP (pay
for performance) which means the advertiser gets paid when a sale
happens by a visitor referred from his website. |
